History: Youth Health Service, Inc. (hereafter YHS), is a private, non-profit agency established in 1978 to provide various health, educational, and social benefits, directly or by referral, to youth and adolescents who reside in Randolph, Barbour, Pocahontas, Tucker, and Upshur counties in north central West Virginia. The program operates within a very rural service region with a central office in Elkins and outpost locations in Mill Creek and Belington.
Growing out of concern for the health and well-being of youth and adolescents, YHS was established by the Memorial General Hospital Association, Inc. and the Family Health Service, Inc., the community health division of this association. Youth Health Service, Inc., is now an independent community-based organization, having incorporated in 1986.
In 1997 YHS saw a need for high quality child care that addressed areas of service that were not presently being met in the community. At that time YHS developed the concept of, and opened to the public, Home Ties Child Care and Development Center. Since that time YHS has been operating one of the premiere child care programs in the state. Home Ties Child Care program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. (October 2001-October 2004)
