Family Investments, a joint effort with Elkins Family Counseling Center, the University of Maryland's School of Social Work, and the United States Children's Bureau, is a program specifically designed to strengthen family life in Randolph and Barbour Counties. A five year program, now in it's second year, Family Investments is designed to decrease "risk factors" that contribute to family stress and strengthen "protective factors" that increase families ability to cope and deal with pressures that family life can bring in this fast paced society we all live in. The program is a replication project, which means that there are specific methods and procedures that have to be followed in order to be faithful to the original program created at the School of Social Work.

The program accepts families who live in Barbour and Randolph counties, have a child from birth to fourteen (14) years of age, and are willing to participate in the program. There is a time commitment involved on the part of the families. The enrollment procedure is usually a two hour process and weekly home visits are scheduled for goal setting during the first three months. The family must also agree to participate in either a six month to twelve month active period during which plans are made to achieve the goals which have been set. "Thank You's" will be provided to all enrolled families in appreciation of their participation including vouchers, respite day care services, and a targeted tutoring program in cooperation with the Education Department at Davis and Elkins College.
